Communication is the means of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is also the act of conveying intended meaning to the another person through the use of mutually understood signs especially by means of electronic, print, radio, waves and several other means that may be e-mail, internet, telephone, radio, television, letter, fax, magazines, newspapers etc. We need to communicate to share information with other. The development of means of communication has made interpersonal relations close, interact and easy.

The different categories/ways of communication include:

• Spoken or Verbal Communication: face-to-face, telephone, radio or television and other media.
• Non-Verbal communication: body language, gestures, how we dress or act.
• Written Communication: letters, e-mail, books, magazines, the internet or via other media.
• Visualizations: graphs and charts, maps, logos and other visualizations can communicate messages.

Communication plays an important role in the development of the country. It reduces the distance and makes the flow of information faster and easily available. It also saves time, budget and labour. Information, ideas and opinions can be shared among many persons at any given time through modern means of communication. It is the main thing in a culture, society, region etc.

By communicating our needs, feelings, ideas and experiences we are able to engage others to work with us in mutual problem-solving. Communication leads to the spread of new ideas. The history of communication in our country starts from 1880 AD after the introduction of postal services. We have four thousand post offices in our country. Besides, the newspapers like Gorkhapatra, The Rising Nepal, The Kantipur Post, The Himalayan times etc. are the different means of communication which uses written words, pictures, and symbols to communicate.

Today, our society is highly influenced by the use of modern means of communication. We cannot think of completion of any of our work of time without using it. By using the means of communication, one can pass information, ideas and opinions with the click of one’s thumb in just a second. The relatives who are living thousands of miles away can be seen in the device held in one’s palm. So, the means of communication have contracted the world.

Communication fosters education, trade, and relationships. It also promotes cultural exchange and conflict resolution. In modern times, there are many colleges, schools, and universities which offer online courses. Getting admitted in such course demands the use of modern means of communication. Today, the world without communication is gloomy.
