Notes on lesson on Carbon and Its Compounds |

Carbon and Its Compounds

After completion of this lesson, student must be able to:

  • Indicate the presence of carbon in general objects.
  • State the physical and chemical properties of carbon.
  • Differentiate organic and inorganic compounds.

Carbon is found in free as well as in combine state. The different forms of the carbon due to different physical and chemical modifications are called allotropes. This note provides an information about carbon and it's compound.

Chemical Properties of Carbon and It's Compounds

When carbon burns in excessive amount of oxygen, it yields carbon dioxide. Carbon is used as reducing less reactive metal oxides like oxide and zinc oxide to their corresponding metals. This note provides further information about chemical properties of carbon.
