Forum is the area that is allocated in a website that is mostly used for the discussion. The topics for the discussion might be restricted according to the forum’s ideology. Most of the forums focus entirely on one topic and we will have discussion related to that topic. There are forums that have vague idea and are divided into sub forums which have unique topics for discussion. Each discussion of the forums are called threads. A forum can be focused on nearly any subject and a sense of an online community, or virtual community, tends to develop among forum members.

Advantages of using a forum:

  • Users can answer one another's questions, thus increasing interacts.
  • Referencing to the same questions become easier.
  • As students discuss, they are generating, fresh content that is rich in keywords and is attractive to search engines.
  • By having an online community, educators are encouraged to visit forum more often, and then they tell others about it.
  • Educators will typically and freely share ideas on how we could improve our offerings and reach new prospects.

Uses of forums in Education:

We can use forums for increase interactive interactions between students and teachers. Teachers can interact with each other and create an environment will facilitate the teaching experience. Teachers can share their experience and resources they use to teach.

We will introduce how to use forums in this session. Using forum will increase the competency of the teachers and will reduce the work load by using materials provided in the forum. Then teachers can focus on individual child for their better growth as the student. Teachers will have broad knowledge of their subject and can have viewpoints of other people and plan their course accordingly to guide the students better. It also provides teachers an international outreach as they will be interacting with the world. We will use two mostly used forums for the teachers, AtoZteacherstuff.com and busyteacher.org

AtoZteacherstuff.com (http://forums.atozteacherstuff.com/index.php)

This forum is dedicated to share the knowledge and ideologies for the teachers. This forum has sub forums that are dedicated for different level of education. This also include chat space where teachers and students can interact and create virtual environment of classroom. There are skill test available for teachers which they can use it to increase their standards. There is a discussion forum dedicated specifically for the examination of teachers. This site can be a valuable resource for the teachers.

To use this site we have to register first. The registration process is similar as the other forum sites. It needs just a valid email address for registration.

Process of registration:

  1. Click on sign up now button at the right of the screen.
  2. Now at the top provide your mailing address and click sign up.
  3. Fill in the forum and click on sign up. Remember to click on the text box just before it says “I agree to the terms and rules.”
  4. Now it says awaiting conformation. Now log into your mailbox and click on the link provided by the mail of atozteacherstuff.com and log in to start using aozteacherstuff.com.
  5. You can search what you require from the top right hand box which says search.

This forum is the collection of teaching materials shared by the teachers which they used for their class. There are mostly English related worksheets available here but we can find other stuff that can be used in class by any teacher. After we type www.busyteacher.com in our address bar we are presented with the home screen. In home screen there is a menu bar which has many options such as worksheets, ESL articles, seasonal, more and our store. We can find worksheets in the worksheets menu and ESL articles has articles written for ESL classes. In more we can find other sections that are useful for teachers to use in their class.

This forum is similar to the atozteachestuff.com and allows teachers to interact with each other and students and create discussions on different topics. In addition to that it also has resources like lesson plans and worksheets that can be used in the class. The registration process is similar to the AtoZteacherstuff. We need to click at the register button at the top right hand corner, fill out the form and activate the account by clicking the mail they sent us in our email.
