Verb is a word which shows action. Verb can be made using suffix like: ate, e-e, en, fy, ly, ise, se, ve, etc. It can be made from noun and adjective. But to make verb prefixes such as en, de, re, as, ac, be can be used.

Generally, noun is made from verb and adjective using the following suffixes:

  • acy = vacancy, accuracy, democracy
  • age = shortage, breakage, homage
  • al = approval, corporal, denial
  • ance = maintenance, ordiance, appearance
  • cy = mercy, vacancy, privacy
  • dom = wisdom, kingdom, freedom
  • ence = innocence, difference, absence
  • ety = piety, society
  • eur = amateur, grandeur
  • hood = childhood, brotherhood, falsehood
  • ice = justice, service, office, practice
  • ity = utility, reality, amenity
  • ment = investment, development, commitment
  • ness = goodness, freshness, vastness
  • ship = hardship, friendship, worship
  • sion = decision, illusion, occasion
  • th = length, breadth, health, truth
  • tion = mention, connection, affection
  • ty = cruelty, bounty, beauty


  • ate = classmate, accurate, compensate
  • e = breathe, clothe, wreathe
  • en = lengthen, fasten, shorten
  • fy = defy, justify, verify
  • ise = advise, exercise, practice
  • se = mesmerize, memorise, emphasise


  • a =ashamed, awake, amend
  • ac = acknowledge, accompany
  • as = assure, assault, ascend
  • be = beware, become, betumble
  • de = design, descend, detach
  • en = ensure, enable, encourage
  • re = recover, recollect, refresh, reserve


It can be made from noun and verb. An adjective can be used before noun and helping verb, (E.g.; That boy is my brother. Ram is a good boy. I?m fine.)

To make adjective the following suffixes are used:

  • able = amicable, capable, available
  • al = technical, local, manual, annual
  • ary = dreary
  • ate = appropriate, accurate
  • ant = brilliant, important
  • ent = dependent
  • ic = pacific
  • cy = fancy, nancy
  • ish = bluish, selfish, childish
  • lar = popular, circular, monocular
  • like = childlike, manlike
  • ly = deadly, curly
  • ous = virtuous, gorgeous, luxurious
  • some = handsome, troublesome
  • tial = potential
  • tic = critic, frantic, lunatic
  • tive = attentive, attractive


It adds more about verb. In English, the following suffixes are used:

  • ly = foolishly, slowly, fastly
  • long = headlong
  • ward = backward, afterward
  • wise = clockwise, anticlockwise, likewise
  • way = headway


Simple Present

  • Play = He plays cricket.
  • Brush = I brush my teeth.
  • 5:30 = I woke up at 5:30 am.
  • Laugh = They laugh everytime.
