Making relations are easy and fast. Rivers can be crossed; oceans voyaged across; mountains flew over, giant animals tamed and so on. Movement is quite and comfortable. No place is inaccessible and no part is isolated. We can build up contact with anybody living in any part of the world. The whole world can be traveled round in few hours.
In the past, the situations were totally different. Since communications and movement were difficult, communities remained isolated. But in the modern world, no society is isolated nor can it remain indifferent changes taking place in other societies. Without having knowledge about the external world and its changes, a man in the modern world cannot complete human being. We have much to learn from others. We have many occasions and methods in which we are linked and interact with other people. Technologies are exchanged. Resources are shared. Globalization is getting a hold in trade, tourism, games and sports and so on. Problems of human race need to be identified and solution measures sought at world level.
It is essential for everyone to be well-acquainted with what is happening the world. Such knowledge helps us to find better adjustment in our society. We can demonstrate our talents in competitions and find a good job too. We can get news and views from various sources such as radio, TV, internet, newspaper and telephone. As a social studies student, you are more required to update your knowledge every day.
Once Development Center Nepal, an NGO formed "Nature Club" in many schools. Students of Mahakavi Devkota Memorial Secondary School, on one of such schools, began to have a campaign for developing their creativity and leadership. They are running a wall magazine that publishes monthly and that provides space for students and express their literary creations, as well. Grade 9 students, in particular, have started Wall Magazine on Current Affairs. They borrow news and views from various resources and paste on the board so that it can be read by all the students. Every Sunday they hold quiz contests on Current Affairs in their class. They are encouraged and supported by all the teachers. They are getting more informed and creative.
If no developments were made in the field of science and technology there would not be any progress in education, social status, health, agriculture, industry, transport, electricity etc. Our lives would be similar to that of the people of pre-historic age. We neither could get any latest news nor could reach any other parts of the world. As a result the whole world would become dark.
